Laurent Valera at Alliance Française Soweto

Artist in resident Laurent Valera hosted the very first workshop at Alliance Française Soweto since its reopening. Valera along with other Alliance Française staff worked with water and the significance of water in a number of ways. Valera, in particular, showed the many ways one could be creative with water by playing with aspects of light and darkness to make the artwork. The children were absolutely mesmerized by this and for Valera, it was an honor to work with children in this manner. Sharing his own love an passion for arts with the children to reach beyond a place where language and the constraints of language are blurred and what is left is the experience the human experience.

We thank the entire Alliance Française Soweto team for allowing Valera this opportunity to work and engage with the community in the manner through the arts as an embodiment of the three aims of SAFFCA:

To give Art exposure through love and passion

To support, nurture and promote the Visual Art and Artists of the Southern part of the African Continent

To participate in linking Local to Global

Furthermore, we thank Ville de Bordeaux for their continuous support
