This year SAFFA in association with The Project Space had in residence artist Barbara Schroeder. Schroeder spent about a month at August House which is located at End St, Doornfontein, Johannesburg which unlike France gave her a new perspective of life and one’s sense of freedom, not physically but spiritually.
Schroeder engaged not only with her own ideas of South Africa but the feelings both good and bad she got from the city and confronted them head-on. This fueled her energy in Johannesburg and drove her to produce a body of work that one could only describe as her surrender to her environment. A surrender that subliminally showcased who Barbara Schroeder was and has become. This body of work will be exhibited soon at Alliance Française so be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to find out more…
Below you will see some special moments, interesting wonderful moments from Schroeder’s residency. A big Thank You to Baliseng and Sam Nhlengethwa for hosting Jonathan Hindson, Ruzy Rusike and Barbara Schroeder in their home.
