CV Dave Robertson

Based in Cape Town, Dave Robertson has been producing artwork and exhibiting since the mid 90’s. As a photographic artist he is well known for his focus on people at the margins of society and much of the imagery in his photographic work reflects this interest.

To this end, his first book of photographs entitled, Plakkerskamp 2003-2012 documents a marginalized community near Bonnievale, in the Western Cape, over a nine year period.

This book won the Lëtzebuerger Buchpräis 2013 book award in Luxembourg.

At the Spier Contemporary 2010 competion, he was a prize winner for Paper Trails, a documentary photographic project focusing on informal recyclers in Newtown, Johannesburg.

Immediately following this achievement, Dave began to focus intensively on abstract painting. A year later in 2011, he had a sellout show of abstract paintings entitled ‘concrete trails, urban tales’ at Worldart Gallery, in Cape Town.

His latest body of work,”Partially Nomad”, combines abstract painting and panoramic photography.

Work from this series  has been exhibited at several galleries including the Pretoria art museum, the Appalachian State University, North Carolina, USA and the Res gallery in Johannesburg.
