Notes : Familiar sights in the bush, the barbed wire fence and fire have ambiguous connotations. For Kim Berman fire symbolises change, in particular the process of transformation, the purging of the past and the possibilities for growth and renewal. But where there’s fire, there’s smoke, which for her represents concealment and deception. Likewise, the barbed wire fence may stand for nature’s violation and/or protection.
