My time on residence in Brussels at La Cambre has been expansive and enriching! I arrived in Brussels to a cold winter gloom where the sky was only ten meters high. It was a journey of searching for warmth…From local saunas, freshly baked pain au chocolat, friendships forged over hot wine, expressive dance, meditative drawings and finally, sun gazing. On the turn of the Equinox, the sky cleared, the sun appeared and the outside world came alive with colour. From gloom to bloom, reflective of the cycle of life, the works made on residence are a companion in a personal spiritual pursuit.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to experience a taste of Europe and connect with creative minds from different parts of the world. I’ve loved working in a space with neighbouring artists, sharing stories and ideas. Special mention to Anna, Arpy, Lucine and Tina who always had activity suggestions and an open heart to connect! It’s been an ease visiting other cities, museums, galleries, drawing workshops, creative spaces, following synchronicities and experiencing art in the material form that I had only studied and seen on screens. Thank you for hosting an end of residency show for Anna and I, and for lighting all the candles. Thrilled to have sold some work too.
I look forward to infusing these experiences into my practice and life.
